CFA Institute Research Challenge Perth Finals
 
Congratulations to Nicole Chung, Benjamin D'Souza, Ankit Rangan and Thomas Mcsharer, from The University of Western Australia for winning the 2019 CFA Institute Research Challenge Perth Final. We wish them all the best for the Regional competition in Seoul next year!

Thank you to the other five participating teams and their mentors Seth Lizée, Sean Kiriwan, Ben Kirou, Indika Rajakaruna, Andrew Foster and Trent Barnett - the standard of the competition was very high. Thank you to the judges Rob Huth, Jason Chesters and Ryan Hair and also to Martin Stulpner and Ian Chu for co-ordinating the competition this year.

Recent Professional Development Events

September 2019: Inclusive Alpha, Diversifying the Sources of Ideas in Investment Teams
Chris West took us through a session outlining the key reasons why there continues to be an evident lack of diversity across institutional investor organisations, particularly within the investment function. He also discussed how sources of ideas can be diversified in pursuit of optimal investment outcomes.

October 2019: The M&A Market and 2020 Outlook

Chris Branston gave us a summary of M&A activity in 2018 and YTD 2019. He outlined key trends and the outlook for 2020, with a focus on Western Australia.

November 2019: M&A Integrations Learnings
We were fortunate enough to have Scott Beedie, EY's local lead on Integrations and Separations, present to members of CFA Society Perth on M&A synergy and integrations best practice yesterday. Thank you to Scott for the insightful presentation and also to EY for hosting us.
