What are some of your career highlights so far?
Starting out as a currency research analyst fresh out of university, there was a steep learning curve for both the analytical work and the style of writing. I was particularly proud the first time one of my articles was published with no edits by the Principal.

More recently, I had the opportunity to attend the CFA Alternatives Conference. In addition to learning more about the sector, this marked a clear step up for me in terms of my personal development – networking had not been one of my strengths a few years back but I seem to have transitioned unknowingly from “faking it” to “making it” and I genuinely enjoyed meeting new people.

What do you like most about your job/industry?
As a boutique investment bank in New Zealand, the work that we do is incredibly diverse across sectors and transactions. I’m constantly learning and developing my technical skills, meeting new people, and getting to understand different ways of thinking. This exposure also allows me to experience various types of work, which would be very useful should I choose to specialise in a particular area in the future.

What are your interests outside work?
I’m a big fan of audiobooks – mostly thriller mysteries mixed with light-hearted fiction, and I enjoy spending time with my family and my baby niece.

I’m also on the board of INFINZ Young Women in Finance and I actively try to promote and support the group. I am thankful for the people who have given me advice and perspective over the years, and I wanted to pay that forward and support others too.

Make a prediction for 2024
I think a regular person’s everyday routine could look considerably different to how it is today. Already we are seeing more flexible work arrangements, new transport options, increasingly smart appliances and gadgets, and advanced online shopping and payment capabilities. Just imagine the flexibility and convenience as these trends progress further, and what we could be doing with the spare time!
