CFA Society New Zealand is led by a team of committed volunteer Directors who plan and implement the strategic vision for the society.  Most Directors oversee a portfolio.  Two part-time staff support the directors and the society.

The Board meet every two months to carry out governance, provide updates on their portfolios, and to plan and review initiatives.

         

Dr Jeffrey Stangl, CFA – Board Chair
Jeff is the Executive Director for Strategic Partnerships at Massey University Business School He holds degrees in Economics from the University of California and an MBA from The American Graduate School (Thunderbird). Jeff has a PhD from Massey University in investments. Jeff’s research passions lie with building financial capability and improving investor education.

 

Simon O’Grady, CFA – Board Vice Chair
Simon is General Manager and CIO at Kiwi Investment Management, the fund manager subsidiary of Kiwi Wealth.  He has over 25 years in investment management across all asset classes and styles, with a successful track record in building and operating multi asset investment businesses in Australia and NZ. Simon is a certified member of INFINZ, the Institute of Directors, and a fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia. Simon has a Diploma in Banking and Finance from Massey University.

 

Paul Richardson, CFA – Board Director
Paul is a Director of AgInvest Holdings, parent of MyFarm Investments.  He has over 27 years finance sector experience and was previously CIO with Mint Asset Management and Westpac /BT Funds, and in securities analysis with UBS in NZ, Australia and Asia. Paul is a member of the Advisory Board of Mindful Money, INFINZ, the NZ Institute of Directors, and was recently Chair of the NZ Corporate Governance Forum. Paul has a BSc in Geology from Auckland University.

 

Chelsea Leadbetter, CFA – Board Director

Chelsea is a Senior Equity Analyst at Forsyth Barr, with her current primary stock coverage including the Healthcare sector, Gaming sector and coverage within the Food, Beverage & Agriculture sector. She has a BCom and BSc from Victoria University, majoring in Finance and Psychology. She gained a Victoria Graduate Award and went on to complete her Honours degree in Finance. She is also a member of INFINZ.

 

Eric Wei, CFA – Board Director

Eric has over 14 years’ experience in the financial services industry. His business experience ranges across Private Wealth Management, Institutional Investment Consulting and Regulatory Supervision. He is employed by Jarden as Director, Wealth Management-Asia, Global Markets.  Prior to this Eric was the Head of Family Office at Bank of China (NZ) Limited where he played a pivotal role in setting up the group first Family Office business worldwide.

 

Jim McElwain – Board Director

Jim is the Executive Director of the Institute of Finance Professionals NZ Inc. (INFINZ) of which he is a certified Member. He has had an extensive corporate finance career including in NZ, Australia and the UK, after commencing his career in the Treasury. Jim holds an Honours degree in Economics from Victoria University of Wellington and is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors in NZ. He is a member of the External Reporting Board Advisory Panel.

 

Christina Leung, CFA – Board Director
Christina is a Principal Economist at the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research, where she looks after NZIER’s economic forecasts and analysis of the NZIER Quarterly Survey of Business Opinion. In addition, Christina also undertakes analysis for a wide range of clients in assessing issues such as the economic impact of an industry or investment. Prior to working at NZIER, Christina worked at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and ASB Bank. Christina holds a Bachelor of Commerce with first class honours in Economics from the University of Auckland.

David Kandziora, CFA – Board Director
David is a Partner at ThreeSixty Capital Partners and has over 15 years of corporate finance experience across mergers and acquisitions, business valuation, business strategy, and financial modelling / analysis. He has particular experience in the infrastructure, energy / utility and technology sectors and has worked with early-stage companies through to multinational conglomerates. David has a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Auckland and is a registered business valuer.
