Primary Purpose of this Position:

• This role is pivotal in contributing to the management of the investment relationships with TCorp’s client base and representing client requirements and preferences within TCorp.
• Work closely with new and potential clients, helping to provide advice to define and support the evolution of their risk appetite and preferences, and appropriate investment objectives.
• Understand and explain to clients the investment decision making framework, including the evolution from a traditional “SAA + Active Risk” approach towards a Whole of Portfolio approach.
• Ensure client centric needs and preferences are clearly understood and communicated to the TCorp teams, including the Portfolio Construction Team.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of a robust Reference Portfolio framework, in support of client risk appetite setting, incorporating support from the Portfolio Construction Team.
• Articulate to clients how investment preferences are expressed within portfolio exposures and recommendations.
• Maintain an understanding of the drivers of client performance versus expectations.
• Manage and ensure all client investment communication and reporting is maintained at a high standard. Develop effective client reporting packages and presentations.

Organisation Environment:

• TCorp is the centralised provider of funds management products and services across the NSW public sector. We provide best-in-class financial management and advice for the NSW Government family.
• TCorp’s objective is to enhance the outcomes for stakeholders (clients), through combining innovation and expertise, and through applying our increased scale for the benefit of client portfolios and outcomes.
• The Investment Management activity sits alongside TCorp’s central borrowing role / Financial Markets function as the two key businesses of TCorp. Both units are supported through a shared services model.
• The Investments team aims to deliver high quality investment performance consistent with client risk and returns expectations.
• It should be noted that there will be a period of transition from the current model to TCorp’s Best in Class Investment Framework. During this time the incumbent will perform a range of duties within the capabilities of the position that may fall outside the strict accountabilities described below.

Key Outcomes and Accountabilities:

• Contribute to the building and documentation of an outstanding framework for the construction and delivery of investment advice to the NSW Government family.
• Engage with clients in providing advice, including a detailed understanding of client objectives and preferences.
• Support the Head of Investment Advisory and other Investment Advisory staff in engaging existing and potential clients on TCorp’s investment philosophy and beliefs, and changes to the portfolio construction process, including the evolution toward the Whole of Portfolio approach.
• Take on primary accountability for the creation and maintenance of policy and procedure documentation for the Investment Advisory team’s functions.
• Coordinate and manage the relationships with TCorp teams including the Portfolio Construction team to ensure the client needs, including timeframes, are clearly understood.
• Enhance client engagement through an understanding of TCorp’s in-house investment view on asset classes, strategies and markets.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of a robust reference portfolio framework, in support of client risk appetite setting, with the support of the Portfolio Construction Team.
• Articulate to clients how investment preferences are expressed within portfolio exposures and recommendations.
• Maintain an ongoing understanding and clear articulation of the drivers of client performance versus expectations.
• Manage and ensure client communication and reporting is maintained to a high standard.

• Strong relationship management skills with ability to develop and manage complex relationships within an institutional investment strategy environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with TCorp Investment and Risk Committees and external parties (executives and Boards) on a wide range of investment issues including governance and stewardship.
• A demonstrated high level of technical investment knowledge coupled with analysis and problem solving skills.
• Advanced analytical and quantitative skills.

Experience and Qualifications:

• At least 7 years’ relevant industry experience.
• Strong working knowledge of investment management disciplines acquired from positions in investment consultants, asset managers or asset owners.
• Demonstrated experience in managing client relationships where effective information management is key to success.
• Significant knowledge and experience of diversified portfolio management and multiple asset classes, including the challenges facing sizeable asset managers.
• Knowledge of managing funds, with regard to the specific needs of different clients and stakeholders. This includes the bespoke requirements of key stakeholders such as government sponsors, insurance companies and superannuation schemes.
• Demonstration of a deep understanding of client/stakeholder drivers for investment strategy, risk appetite and investment settings.
• Experience with Boards or investment committees in relation to multi-billion dollar institutional investment funds.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. Experience in running workshops with Boards and executives.
• Well-developed knowledge of Australian and international investment markets’ operations and practices.
• Relevant tertiary education are required. Relevant post-graduate qualifications and industry accreditations are desirable.
