Growth of private credit has been significant in offshore markets both pre and post GFC. Drivers of this growth in private credit are structural; as global assets under management seek out new asset classes along with the fact that private credit offers a counter-cyclical annuity with a better yield when benchmarking against investment grade bond markets.
Continuing increases in the regulation of banks and deposit taking institutions is seeing those entities pull capital away from certain capital heavy loan sectors. Within Australasia, there is an increasing reliance on non-bank lenders to fill the gap created by the withdrawal of traditional lenders, initially this related to the property finance and LBO market but is widening into corporate and mid-market lending.
This panel seminar will consider both investment and borrower opportunities from private credit in the New Zealand context.
