Prof Söhnke Bartram is visiting as part of CFA’s Asia Pacific Research Exchange (ARX) series. The ARX is an interactive platform for participants to share expertise, learn about subjects of interest, and engage others.
As his biography shows, Dr Bartram is a world leader on issues around international finance and financial markets. We hope you can join us to hear his insights. There will be time for networking and a light lunch is provided.
Topic: Global market inefficiencies
Dr Bartram shows that fundamental analysis works, using accounting data to estimate monthly fair values.
His study examines more than 25,000 stocks from 36 countries for over two decades. Trading on deviations from estimated fair value, his strategy generates economically/statistically significant risk-adjusted returns, especially in Asia Pacific and emerging markets countries.
Net alphas are shown to significantly exceed country specific trading costs in most regions, illustrating global market inefficiencies.
Söhnke Bartram is a Professor in the Department of Finance at Warwick Business School. He is also a Charter Member of Risk Who’s Who and a member of an international think tank for policy advice to the German government.
Dr Bartram’s research is well recognised and awarded, including the Prize in Asset Management from the Centre for Asset Management Research & Investments in 2017. His work has been presented at conferences such as the American Finance Association and the Western Finance Association. He is widely published including in the Journal of Finance and the Journal of Financial Economics.
He worked for several years in quantitative investment research for State Street Global Advisors as Head of the London Advanced Re-search Center, is a consultant to various financial institutions and investment companies, and is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Banking and Finance and the Financial Review.
